Use Village garbage bags and we’ll pick them up
Once a week, residential curbside garbage pickup is available within the village. Village garbage bags for residential garbage are available for purchase from most retail outlets in town and from the Village office. Residential garbage is picked up on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Please refer to the garbage collection map to see what day garbage is picked up in your neighbourhood.

Using Village garbage bags is a pay-as-you-go system
The Village of Nakusp provides a residential curbside waste collection service that is pay-as-you-go. Instead of issuing an annual bill for garbage pickup with a flat fee for the service, the Village sells garbage bags. The cost of the bags includes the fee for the collection service. Residents may put out as much, or as little garbage as they wish and only pay for the amount of the service they use.
In order to ensure collection of residential waste, the following must be observed:
- Garbage must be contained in a tied Village garbage bag
- Village garbage bags must be placed out for collection, at the correct location, by 7:00 am on the designated day of the week
- Bags must not exceed 50 lbs (22 kgs) in weight
It is the responsibility of the occupant to ensure that waste receptacles and bags are inaccessible to animals and impervious to the weather. Uncontained garbage will not be picked up and remains the responsibility of the occupant.
