This initial draft of the proposed Zoning Bylaw is to provide you with a picture of what is being contemplated. This will draft bylaw remain available in its current form for the next two weeks. We will accept all public input until April 4, 2023 before moving on to the next steps.
Please note if there are errors within the document, as well as formatting issues that will be resolved in the next Draft version.
How did we get here?
The Zoning Bylaw rewrite began in 2021, led by Urban Systems, who collected public input and developed a good part of the bylaw based on public feedback and the current zoning bylaw.
Staff provided input based on where it receives the largest number of requests for variances, issues raised from the public, listing known non-conformities into this bylaw, and aligning Zoning with the recently completed Official Community Plan.
Council reviewed a previous draft from Urban Systems mid-2022 and provided its feedback on the proposed changes.
At the beginning of 2023, Staff began to compile the various comments made by Council and have assembled this draft of the Zoning Bylaw for the public to review and comment on. This will be the last public engagement session until the final public hearing before the bylaw will be adopted by Council.
What’s next?
Village staff will compile feedback from the public, and make recommendations for any required changes to Council. The next draft will be reviewed by the Village’s legal counsel and specific external stakeholders.
Once this process has been completed, the Bylaw will go through the required readings of the bylaw, including a public hearing, before being adopted by Council. The Public will be informed when Council is to give initial consideration of the final draft of the Bylaw and are afforded an opportunity to speak at the Public Hearing.
