Maintenance of sidewalks is the joint responsibility of the Village and the adjacent property owner/occupier.  The Village conducts annual inspections and completes maintenance, repairs and capital improvements of sidewalks. Boulevard maintenance, vegetation control, garbage collection and snow removal are shared with property owners.

Snow Removal for Sidewalks

All owners/occupiers are to ensure that all sidewalks abutting or fronting their property are kept clear of all snow, ice, dirt, litter and rubbish.  Accumulations of less than 10 cm per snowfall are the responsibility of the adjoining property owner/occupier. Village crews will clear snow from Village sidewalks when snow has reached an accumulation of 10 cm or deeper in a single snowfall.

Sidewalk snow can be pushed onto the adjacent street for removal by Public Works crews, but snow from business parking lots or private land (including driveways) must not be pushed onto the roadway.

For further clarification, please see our Winter Streets Maintenance Policy  (Policy RM13).
